What is Compounding?
Compounding is the formulation and mixture of medications that are not commercially available. This is the historical basis for pharmacy as we know it. In early pharmacy, there were no big manufacturers or mass produced drugs, so a pharmacist was required to mix each prescription as it was received. Every person is different, and this customization of medicine was extremely beneficial to the patient. By turning to the past and regaining the flexibility and inividulization of medications, doctors can prepare for a bright future and introduce their patients to the many advantages of compounding.
